This project showcases an expressive, art‑and‑technology piece—a modular synthesizer-based drum machine built from the electrocardiograms (ECGs) of four children born with congenital heart disease.
Each child’s heartbeat is decoded into its rhythmic sequence, producing uniquely layered soundscapes.
Developed in collaboration with audiovisual designer Love Hultén and Teenage Engineering, the CHD‑4 drum machine has toured exhibitions, launched publicly on World Heart Day (September 29), and proceeds from its auction are donated to the Swedish Heartchild Foundation.
