The UU Archive is a team of art scholars dedicated to uncovering and preserving the history of Ukraine’s national art culture from the second half of the 20th century.
Their work involves monitoring academic research, studying both private and museum collections, and organizing bibliographic and documentary records into a public, digital archive that focuses on the work of non-formal (underground/alternative) artists.
Their Mission
Their goal is to highlight the dual nature of Ukrainian art’s evolution between the mid-1950s and early 1990s—a time marked by contrast, complexity, and cultural tension.
By filling the long-standing gaps in national art criticism, we aim to create a comprehensive and accessible resource for those studying the rich and often overlooked history of Ukrainian visual culture.
Who It’s For
This archive is built for everyone passionate about Ukrainian art—whether you’re an art critic, cultural historian, academic, student, collector, journalist, or simply an admirer of visual storytelling.
It’s a tool for research, education, and inspiration, offering a deeper understanding of a vibrant artistic period shaped by resilience, resistance, and creativity.
