X Cicéro is a type design workshop offered to graphic design students at ESAD Valence, centered around the school’s small yet historic collection of wooden type housed in its letterpress printing studio.

Though many of the type sets are incomplete or damaged, they were carefully catalogued, measured, and, when possible, identified. These physical letterforms were then printed and used as the foundation for creating new digital typefaces—some of which were subsequently tested through digital cutting.

The long-term vision? To restore these original typefaces, craft new ones inspired by them, and ensure the letterpress workshop continues to thrive as a living part of the design curriculum.
