Discover how reflecting feelings builds empathy, improves listening, and helps conversations and workshops flow better.
When you’re talking to someone, one of the simplest and most effective ways to show that you’re truly listening—and that you care—is by reflecting their feelings back to them.
This can be as simple as saying things like, “It sounds like you’re really worried about this,” or “From what you’re saying, there seems to be a lot of anxiety around the development timeline,” or even “It sounds like this has been frustrating for you for a while.”
By naming what they’re feeling, you’re showing that you genuinely understand their experience.
That helps people feel seen and heard, instead of repeating themselves or trying harder to get their point across.
It also fosters empathy and trust, making it easier for the group to move forward—especially in a workshop or collaborative setting.
