The Authoritarian Stack is an interactive investigation and data visualization project that maps how tech billionaires, defense tech firms, VCs, and political actors are knitting together a “stack” of private infrastructure around core state functions—cloud, AI, finance, drones, satellites, border tech, and more.
Based on an open-source dataset of 250+ actors, thousands of connections, and tens of billions of dollars in financial flows, the site lets you explore this network visually and see how venture-backed “authoritarian tech” is shaping a post-democratic, corporate-governed model of power in the US and exporting it to Europe.
The project is led by Prof. Francesca Bria and a team of researchers, and is supported by European foundations such as FES and Rosa Luxemburg Stiftung.
